THE CASE FOR INVESTMENT

Students in the College of Science benefit from the generosity of donors who want to help them succeed. Following are a just a few ways you can make a difference. To discuss these and other opportunities to support science students, contact Chelsea Coursey, director of development, 618/303-3105.

Increased Scholarships

  • Fund a one-time scholarship covering part or all of the cost of one student’s education in science. $6,250-$150,000 for five years 
  • Endow an undergraduate scholarship providing full-tuition support for one student or partial funding for several. Starting at $200,000
  • Support “completion” scholarships to help five to ten senior-level students close the financial gap needed to stay in school to graduate. $5,000

Expanded Opportunities

  • Fund two research cohorts, allowing a group of five to ten students to complete a cross-disciplinary project to enhance research skills and learn teamwork. $15,000
  • Support one-student’s participation in a hands-on geology summer field camp in Montana and Wyoming. $4,500

Enhanced Facilities and Resources

  • Renovate and maintain facilities such as the Saluki Aquarium to support student and faculty research as well as community engagement. Starting at $25,000

Deeper Community Engagement

  • Support an SIU Science Day on campus for minority high school and community college students. $20,000
